President Buhari will be attending the economic and security summit in the South-East with Olusegun Obasanjo
On Monday, December 19, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a statement warned President Muhammadu Buhari never to set foot into the South-East region of Nigeria.
The group in its statement referred to the region as the Biafra land.
The IPOB said President Buhari must stay away unless he wants to taste the wrath of Biafrans.
However contrary to the threat made by the group, the president is scheduled to attend the maiden South-East Economic and Security Summit (SEESS 2016) alongside former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
The summit which will also be attended by many other dignitaries will be held in Enugu state Government House at the Independence Layout, Enugu on Thursday, December 22, 2016.
The summit, Vanguard reports is an initiative of SEESS group, a non government organization made up top business, military, political and religious leaders among others.
The event will focus on measures suitable for addressing relative peace and development in the South-East region.
It will also consider solutions based on recommendations on these issues.
Also, a former minister of power Barth Nnaji , who is also the chairman of the summit said President Muhammadu Buhari has confirmed his attendance for the SEESS.
Nnaji said President Buhari attendance is a demonstration of his interest in maintaining peace in the region and other regions.
He said this also shows the president is concerned in fostering Nigeria’s economic growth.
Nnaji said: “We are also pleased to announce that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, who has been a strong advocate for the convocation of a summit not pivoted on politics but rather on the economic and developmental premise for the region and other regions, has also committed to attend.”
“All five governors from the South Eastern states will be participating at the Summit, and they will lead other eminent personalities and delegates to discuss issues of common interest,” he said.
